For those who come to Los Cabos specifically for diving, an all inclusive 8 or 9 day trip on the Solmar V may be just the thing.
This handsome vessel takes its passengers to destinations in the Sea of Cortez and the remote Revillagegidos Islands about 300 miles southwest of Land's End. The Solmar V is a luxury 112 foot floating resort operating out of Cabo San Lucas which cruises at a speed of 11 knots, features 12 staterooms with mahogany interiors, private baths and showers, individual air-conditioning controls, TV and VCR.
The main salon is a study in refined elegance and a meeting place for as many as 24 passengers. Three gourmet meals are served daily, along with all other amenities, crystal clear ice and water.
The rear deck and dive platform has the best swimstep available and features two rapid fill compressors. Sites on the Solmar V's itinerary include Gorda Banks, Los Frailes, El Bajo and Cabo Pulmo. It's an nine day trip to the Revillagigedos, also known as "Mexico's Galapagos." The volcanic group includes Isla Socorro, Isla Clarion, Roca Partida and Isla San Benedicto.
You'll find no human settlements in this remote and pristine corner of the world, other than a naval station on Socorro, the largest island. You will, however, find an abundance of marine life. From tuna, dolphins and manta rays to hammerhead sharks and killer whales, the area teems with life.
Diving operations aboard the Solmar V are run by PADI certified Amigos Del Mar. Rates for the all inclusive trips from May to November to the Sea of Cortez start at around $2,000 per person. From November to May, ninet-day trips to Socorro start at around $3,000 per person. The Solmar V is also available for corporate use with custom itineraries and non-diving cruises.
