Restaurant review by Sheri Lynn Wilson
This is a restaurant review that I am excited to write about, considering I wound up dining there purely by accident on my birthday, as Pitahayas was closed for remodel. De Cortez Grill & Restaurant and Pitahayas are both located in the Sheraton Hacienda del Mar Resort at Cabo del Sol along the tourist corridor just a few miles out of downtown Cabo San Lucas.
The ambience is mellow and romantic. We chose a table outside, near the beach, with a wonderful view of the Sea of Cortez and the stars above. The background music was soft jazz, played lightly enough so that you could still hear the sound of the water gently lapping the shoreline. I was very impressed with the extensive wine selection. I chose a fine Pinot Noir, and then perused the menu and found there to be a delectable array of choices, all of which sounded scrumptious!
We started with the Shrimp and Spinach Ravioli appetizer, very tasty and a meal in itself. Then we shared the Organic Shrimp Salad; served with what the waiter described as a Coral Dressing, and absolutely delicious! At this point of the meal I did not think it could get any better, but I was mistaken. When our wonderful and attentive waiter presented us with our entrees, I was once again in awe. I had the Rack of Lamb, served with three different sauces on the side, and it was cooked exactly to my specifications. The lamb was very tender, and was accompanied with mashed potatoes, and vegetables prepared al dente as they should be. My friend had the Sweet Potato Shrimp covered with a passion fruit tequila sauce. I must say it was a food lovers dream come true! I have never had shrimp prepared in such a unique way, and it was certainly a passionate experience for my taste buds!
After draining the last of the Pinot Noir from my glass, and taking a brief stroll to the ladies room, I returned to my table to find the most artistically arranged platter of fresh strawberries drizzled with rich chocolate, along with two tall glassed of bubbly. I was also pleasantly surrounded by the wait staff as they proceeded to sing Happy Birthday to me. The evening could not have been any better as far as I was concerned, and I was very thankful that by chance, I happened upon a fine restaurant that I can now add to my favorites list. I look forward to going back to try some of the other specialties on the menu, and indulging my senses once again.
