Greetings from Cabo San Lucas! Where the Land ends, and the fishing for Marlin, Dorado and Tuna is now improving, as the warmer waters are pushing up. At Last, that real slow bite is broken although not feeding frenzy as we are used to this time of the year. Still The Sea of Cortez is where most of the action is taking place. During this reporting period, anglers are fishing and K-atching Striper marlin at the 1150 spot and outside the 95 spot at the 1000 fathom curve. The Blue Marlin bite continues, between 1150 area and Cabrillo. On the Pacific side, finally something is happening! Really nice size dorado bite going off between the lighthouse and the sand hills. Also in the Pacific and for a couple of days- July 12 and 13 - there was tuna biting at the Horsehoe area.
And now time to feature our fishing warriors who got hooked up on our Hook up charter boats. Steve Nadell from San Mateo CA. went out on Hook Up Too, with capt. Alex and Deckhand Marcos, and when they were 13 miles out of the Whalehead in the Cortez side, WHAMM!!! A striper hooked up and the fun began! Mr Nadell says '' Marcos and Alex ROCK! Work hard, play hard and fish easy. Thanks for a great trip, and see you soon'' Here at Hook up we hope to see you again soon guys! Mr. Larry Wier & Steve Harrell, coming all the way from Cape Coral FL., fished on Hook up for 2 days and they got 2 stripers and a Blue. Yes, it was a blue marlin in the range of 350 lbs.. They hooked up outside the 1150 on the way to Cabrillo, as for the stripers they were caught 17 miles out the Hill. They say "good crew, they knew what they were doing. Excellent!"
To recap, Fishing and K_atching has shown some improve compared to the last reporting period. And with the weather conditions and warmer waters pushing up, we can predict that the fishing_ but mostly the K-atching_is only going to get better! And the question of the day, buoys and gulls. Where do you go, to meet the best fish? Doesn't matter. Any old plaice will do. Time to groan now. Coming to Cabo San Lucas? We invite you to stop by our Hook Up Charter office and Big Game apparel store, conveniently located in downtown across Mar de Cortez Hotel. Just come on in and visit, we would love to meet you!

Best Fishing Locations
The Sea of Cortez presently holds most all best fishing locations out of Cabo San Lucas during this reporting period. Overall, with the fishing real slow, most boats are going to the 95 Spot and areas just before and further out past the 95 to the 1000 Fathom Curve. Then the 1150 is best with a few boats checking out Cabrillo as a few Blue Marlin were caught around this area. Even 3-5 miles off the beach Stripers have been fount, at times, traveling towards and to Gorda Bank just off San Jose.
Weather Conditions
Cabo San Lucas weather has been mixed with clear Cabo Blue skies followed another day with scattered clouds at 20,000 feet and then downright overcast days with clouds at 6,000 feet and overcast at 20,000 feet. Even the first days of this report it actually rained some in the morning and harder rain that night. Probably because of the Low Depression a few hundred miles South of Cabo San Lucas. One thing consistent though has been the heat. Daytime air temperatures have held at 91-93 degrees and we have seen the humidity rise, for the first time this year, into the mid-fifties. Still not bad and yet we can feel the moisture. Again, most like the low depression and storm South of us. Visibility all days at 12 miles. Nighttime air temperatures at 75-79 F Degrees however remember this is the lowest of the night providing cooler mornings. Dinner time and party time it is in the low eighties. Winds still mostly 11-14 MPH making it still rather breezy but refreshing should you be pool side or walking in Cabo streets daytime. Seas have winds at 12-15 knots coming from the West/Southwest. Offshore it has small whitecap conditions with moderate choppy seas. Short period swells at 13 second periods with seas at 5 feet. Closer to the shoreline on the Cortez it is considerably more comfortable without whitecap conditions. UV Factor all over the place. Clear sky days it is dangerous at 12 and overcast days more like 3. Be prepared with sunscreen.
Average Water Temperatures
Cabo San Lucas surface sea temperatures have heated up both of the Pacific Ocean side and the Sea of Cortez too. The Pacific at Golden Gate has been at 72 F while San Jaime Bank holds at 73 F. Even though these past weeks we have seen a warming on the Pacific the fishing is practically non-existent. Should you remember our last report the East Cape area has seen surface sea temperature waters at 82-83 F degrees and we have been watching if this warmer water would come South into our fishing spots. During this rport this water has moved down and now the Gorda Bank, Cabrillo and near the 1150 the water has hit 80 F degrees for the first tie this year. The 95 holds at 78 F. Plus all along the 1000 Fathom Curve waters are from 74 Pacific side to 78 Cortez side. Well, that warmer water we hoped for is here so where are the fish?
Whats Working?
Live bait still your best bet with trolling next. Here is some old news and that is the cost of bait has risen from $2.00 to $3.00 per bait. Small tuna hitting Marlin lures as nice sized Dorado when the hit as a blind strike.
7 Day Forecast
Looks like Cabo San Lucas shall experience mostly scattered cloud days with ceilings at 20,000 feet. These days shall be mixed with just ugly overcast days and even towards the ending of this period a chance of showers. Let us hope not. Even with these overcast and cloudy days the daytime air temperatures shall hold at 91-93 F degrees. Humidity shall continue to rise into the sixties. Yes, those August humid hot days are arriving it appears. There is a distinct possibility that the breezy windy conditions will subside replaced by 6-8 MPH light winds.
Based on the catches of Hook Up Cabo Sportfishing by Paul BenderAs always, live bait is best. Trolling slow but then so has been the fishing. Let's wait and see for the next report.
