Palmilla Golf Club
A Jack Nicklaus Signature design at The One&Only Palmilla Resort
"The Ocean Course will be closed from July 7th until December 16th, 2009 due to Maintenance and Repair, We apologized for the invconveniences. And we remind you that our Arroyo and Mountain Courses are open and in optimal conditions"
Any discussion of golf in Los Cabos must begin with Palmilla Golf Club. Don Koll and Jack Nicklaus set the scene for the creation of this unique blending of desert and sea, one of the world’s truly picturesque golf destinations. Palmilla , now the One&Only Palmilla is the most classic of Mexican resorts in Los Cabos. The Arroyo Nine, the Mountain Nine and the new Ocean Nine are of traditional Mexican design.
Of the new Ocean course, Nicklaus said it was like “designing mountains by the sea.” Every hole has its own view of the shimmering, electric blue Sea of Cortez in the distance. Gentle slopes, wide fairways, and large but challenging greens greet players on the back tees. There’s a wonderful range of holes, led by the Mountain #5. You will tee off a medium length par 4 over a deep canyon; then over and own another deep canyon on the second shot; with the green fronted by a deep bunker.
The Arroyo #6 hole features a long dogleg left, and plays 460 yards. On the 560 yard Arroyo #7 hole, you play alongside a deep, foreboding arroyo. Diverse in length and enhanced by several water and sand hazards, the Mountain holes are as beautiful as they are challenging. The Mountain #1 is an incredible drive off of a cliff with the omnipotent sea at your back. But it is the Mountain #5 that is regarded as the greatest hole at Palmilla Golf Club, with a force-carry from mountain tee boxes to a well-manicured island fairway.
The green is laid down on the natural slope of an arroyo, making it look a great deal longer than its documented 401 yards. Palmilla Golf Course still holds it’s own against all the newcomers.
