Leticia Cervantes has called Los Cabos home for the past twenty-one years. Originally from Mexico City, Leti considers herself extremely lucky to be residing with her family in one of the most beautiful places on the planet.
As an artist, she is inspired by the landscape of the area on a daily basis, for here, in Los Cabos, where two seas converge in the desert, the moon can be found in varying shades of red, orange, and yellow. |
Leti appreciates the fact that dawns and dusks are never the same, and that hundreds of animal species live and mate here, all of which create countless opportunities for her to transform them into works of art.
In contrast to photographers and painters, Leti uses cloth on canvas to create what she calls fabric art. Implementing techniques used in quilting, embroidery, and knitting, Leti creates beautifully original pieces that are 100% authentic depictions of all things Baja. Native animals, tropical plants amid the arid desert, the ocean itself, and even typical scenes portraying daily life in this Land´s End paradise are all examples of things that awaken Leti´s curiosity, lending themselves to her artistic interpretation. |

Utilizing different colors, textures, and patterns of cloth, Leti focuses her attention on even the tiniest of details in order to create the illusion of a perfectly placed brush stroke on canvas. Within each piece of her fabric art, there is a sense of movement, depth, and life that simply cannot be found in paintings or photographs. Indeed, each of Leti´s pieces is an optical illusion, demonstrating the true beauty that lies here in Los Cabos and all of Baja.
Each one is something to be marveled at and admired. Investing anywhere from twenty to one-hundred-and-forty hours in each picture, Leti produces each piece as an original idea, unique and unduplicated.
