The feeling you get as you walk into Lucky’s Cabo Grill is one of familiarity and welcome. It is the same one you experience while attending a backyard barbeque in your hometown, filled with friends and smiling neighbors, not the kind of sentiment usually experienced upon entering a restaurant in downtown Cabo. Adding to the cozy feeling, sometimes there is even a friendly dog, Lucky, the namesake of the restaurant, lying near the entrance awaiting guests with his tail wagging. This small, outdoor eatery is nestled among a handful of restaurants on Miguel Hidalgo Street, now known locally as “Restaurant Row.” Tables toward the front of the restaurant offer prime spots for viewing the heavy foot traffic as the day progresses, and seats toward the rear are perfect for a bit of privacy and proximity to the modest but sufficiently-stocked bar. Don´t forget to sign your name on the walls sporting Lucky´s portrait or to check out the jukebox´s selection of 70s classics. In addition to blonde little Lucky, the barbeque itself, emitting savory smells all day long, catches the attention of passersby, as nearly every entrée offered here comes grilled, perfectly! From shrimp, fish, chicken, Porterhouse steak, and ribs, Lucky´s Cabo Grill has mastered the art of grilling. Rib combos, including chicken, sirloin, and all-you-can-eat options, top out at $18 US. The arrachera is so tender, knives aren´t even necessary. Entrees are served with grilled, sweet corn on the cob, rice or beans, and complimentary chips and salsa. Of course, Lucky´s Cabo Grill also has several Mexican staples, such as quesadillas, tamales, and fajitas. Entrees range from $13 US to $25 US, making this one of Cabo´s best choices for great food and outstanding prices. Kid’s meals are available. Accepting MasterCard and Visa. How about a relaxing breakfast on a quiet patio in the middle of town, watching folks passing back and forth along “restaurant row” in Cabo San Lucas? While Lucky‘s Cabo Grill sounds like it ought to be a place to go for lunch or dinner (and it is), breakfast is a treat, too. Lucky’s is named after a guest who stopped by, and didn’t leave. The restaurant’s mascot is a friendly dog that sits out front and is happy to greet you. One day, he just wandered in and settled at the foot of a table. Restaurant owners, Patty Congdon and John Higgins, tried to find his rightful master, but eventually, Lucky decided his home was with them. We had our breakfast in this cheery cantina with Mexican style wooden tables, covered with brightly colored tablecloths, with ample room between them. The breakfast menu is great for traditional American and Mexican dishes. Lucky’s (the restaurant, that is) has breakfast specialties with nine different preparations of Eggs Benedict. “Benny’” choices include steak or chili bennys, tuna bennys, tomato and artichoke bennys, and Paco bennys, made with machaco. Perhaps the most special special is the lobster benny. All nine are accompanied by potatoes and the freshest of fruits, and you have your choice of chipotle or traditional Hollandaise sauce. Any benny selection is available for just $6.95 US. Other complete breakfast menu items include more familiar fare, such as eggs prepared to your liking, pancakes, and French toast, ranging from $4.50 to $5.50 US. Lucky’s Cabo Grill is located on Miguel Hidalgo in the old La Parillada location. Family friendly – and pet-friendly, too! Open Tuesday through Sunday for breakfast, daily for lunch and dinner, and has a Sunday brunch. (624) 143-7424.
