| A message from the editor
Since 1993 Los Cabos Magazine has been the single definitive source of detailed and up-to-date information for travelers planning to visit Cabo San Lucas and the Los Cabos area of Baja California Sur, Mexico.
We continue to change and grow just as this world-class resort region grows. With this issue we are publishing and will distribute 150,000 copies, our largest press-run ever, and it can now be found on numerous newsstands in North America.
Our website, www.loscabosguide.com, continues to evolve and grow, offering visitors online access to current information about this destination.
The Los Cabos area continues to expand and evolve despite the many problems in the world today. More tourists are discovering our tropical paradise, located less than 1,000 miles from the United States/Mexico border. An increase in the number of tourists means an increase in the demand for more hotels, resorts, restaurants, shops, activities and services. Los Cabos is expanding to accommodate these needs. The hotel association indicates that by the end of 2003 the number of hotels rooms available will have nearly doubled from those available only five years ago. The Puerto Paraiso Entertainment Plaza, situated on the Cabo San Lucas marina, is nearing completion and encompasses 50,000 square meters, and already houses many new stores and restaurants. Fine hotels and quality resorts such as Sol Meliá, Hilton, Marquis, Playa Grande, Pueblo Bonito and others have built new resorts or expanded their current facilities to meet the demands of increased tourism. All of these hotels and resorts are close to, or have access to, championship golf courses and world-class billfishing. New restaurants and stores are also opening in the region to accommodate the need of an increasing number of visitors. More developers are providing oppor- tunities to purchase lots and homes in quiet communities for those wishing to make Los Cabos their full-time or part-time home.
Our annual magazine will continue to provide the detailed information our readers have come to expect. Los Cabos Visitors Guide, our sister publication, also published yearly, provides the more detailed guide-type of information for the Los Cabos area.
Welcome to Los Cabos. We hope this information will make your visit more enjoyable. There is more to enjoy in Los Cabos than ever before!

ACTIVITIES: Cacti Mundo ... The Amazing World of Cacti - By Sabrina Lear
The removable white vinyl roof with its graceful sail-like shapes is the first thing that strikes you upon arriving at Cacti Mundo. The architecture is sleek and contemporary, creating a visually stunning overall effect, unlike anywhere else in Cabo San Lucas and Los Cabos. Still, the impressive exterior is no match for what awaits one once inside.
ACTIVITIES: Marital Bliss in a Magical Locale - By Lindsay Blake
Here comes the bride: joyful, graceful, and lovely. A bouquet of white orchids reflects her refined elegance. She glows in that special way brides glow; from withinradianther elation evident in her beaming smile. It is her wedding day. A happy moment made happier because she is getting married in gorgeous Cabo San Lucas; an extraordinary place, an extraordinary affair.
ADVENTURE: The Ultimate Thrill Ride - by Randy Turner
The billowing dust plumes behind the high speed off-road racing car as it careens through dips, bumps, jumps and high speed turns. The closest most of us get to this scene is watching the world-renowned Baja 1000 race on ESPN. But now, not only can you witness this thrilling experience up close and personal, you can actually take the wheel of one of these Chenowth Magnum race cars just like the pros. The newest adventure to hit Cabo San Lucas and Los Cabos is offered by a company called Wide Open Baja and after hearing all the local buzz, I decided to give it a try.

FEATURE: Stress Relief
South of the Border - Cabo San Lucas Style - by Karen Trapane
Incessant phone ringing. Constant interruptions. I just need to finish this memo. Its urgent. My boss is practically waiting by the door with his running shoes on so he can hand carry it over to the execs in the building across campus. Its all about lookin good you know. Never mind the employee who actually conducts the studies, compiles the research and summarizes it all, very eloquently and succinctly I might add, onto one page so the boss looks good!
FISHING: Not Just a Mans Sport - by Karen Trapane and Randy Turner
Cabo San Lucas has long been recognized as one of the top destinations in the world for big game fishing. Beginning in the 1950s, affluent anglers from around the world targeted Los Cabos for the abundance of billfish that inhabit the fertile waters of the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez. This was a sport that was dominated by men, and in the early days few women accompanied the fishermen on their adventures to Baja. This situation is changing as women anglers are starting to realize that battling fish that can weigh in excess of 500 pounds is not only possible, but to the chagrin of male anglers, they are often able to do a better job.
GOLF: A Week on the Links - A Golfer's Dream Come True - by Randy Turner
What would it be like to spend a week playing a different championship course every day in the hottest golf destination in North America? A golfers dream come true. Being considered a hacker, this was indeed a challenging prospect. The courses in Los Cabos are some of the most demanding one can encounter anywhere. In spite of my love/hate relationship with the sport, I decided to give it a go.
HISTORY: Tequila - Liquid Fire in Depth - by Ryan Thomas
No other liquid is surrounded by as many stories, myths, legends and lore as tequila and its sister beverage mezcal. As wine and whisky have taken their place in modernized western culture, so too has tequila. Once only a drink for bandidos and rancheros, tequila is as much at home in the fist of todays business yuppie as a cup of Starbucks coffee. While plenty have sampled various breeds of this zesty spirit in the form of a margarita, many more are discovering that good tequila is a drink to be enjoyed like a fine cognac or scotch. Many have put away the salt shakers and sliced limesthey sit down, relax and savor the taste of liquid fire
sip by sip!
HOTELS AND SPAS: A Boom in Tourism - by Lindsay Blake
Tourism is booming in Los Cabos. The region is undeniably one of the most rapidly growing areas in México. It is comprised of historic, colonial San José del Cabo to the east, and thriving Cabo San Lucas to the west, and connected by the twenty-mile Tourist Corridor. It is astonishing to view the recent evolution of tourism within this quaint region of México.
NATURE: An Off-Road Excursion - by Ryan Thomas
Looking for a new way to explore Los Cabos? Do you want to learn a little about the incredible plants and animals that live here in Baja? Nestled within the borders of the Cabo Real Private Natural Reserve, Desert Park offers you the perfect opportunity to accomplish these goals. As you glide through the desert with comfort and ease on a state-of-the-art Honda ATV, you will be guided by an experienced naturalist through 3,300 acres of the most breathtaking scenery you will encounter during your stay in Los Cabos.
SHOPPING: From Trinkets to Fine Art - by Lindsay Blake
Some people travel to shop, others shop while traveling. In either case, Cabo San Lucas is the quintessential shopping mecca. While I tend to seek out the jewelry and pottery stores, you may prefer to explore the galleries, home furnishing stores and other various artsy boutiques. Whatever the interest, there is a place here for you.
SHOPPING: Puerto Paraiso Entertainment Plaza - by Sabrina Lear
The Puerto Paraiso Entertainment Plaza is the most ambitious commercial shopping and entertainment center project ever constructed in the southern Baja peninsula. When completed it will offer tourists a world of entertainment, dining, shopping, cinemas, and lodging spread out over 50,000 square meters on three levels.
REAL ESTATE: Luxurious Developments by Randy Turner
Over the past 20 years Los Cabos has gone from the sleepy fishing village of Cabo San Lucas to a world-renowned tourist destination. It started growing to accommodate the increasing number of anglers seeking unbelievable fishing, however, getting here was one of the biggest challenges. Things changed with the completion of the International Airport in San José del Cabo. The area exploded in both visitors as well as general population.
