Breakfast like mama used to make.. If your mama was a culinary school graduate !

Cabo San Lucas, Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, Mexico

Known as the oldest “gringo” restaurant in downtown Cabo San Lucas, so says chef-owner, Spencer Moore, Mama’s Royal Cafe opened in 1991 and it is still going strong.

Specializing in bountiful breakfasts “like mama used to make,” Mama’s Royal Cafe has something for every appetite, from fresh fruit plates and smoothies, to 40 variations of omelets, including a King Kong Omelet that has “the works.” Start with fresh-squeezed juices of orange, grapefruit, mango, and papaya, or a Mimosa from the full bar before indulging in a traditional Mexican dish of the tried and true Huevos Rancheros, a fried egg atop a corn tortilla smothered in ranchero sauce or Nopalitos con Huevos, scrambled eggs with fresh cactus and mild chiles, or any one of many more regional dishes.

American-style breakfasts include homemade hash and eggs, crepes with just-the-right-lemony-taste hollandaise, smoked pork chops, and Texas Tornado, a chicken-filled crepe with poblano chiles and avocado. Besides the traditional Eggs Benedict, other variations are offered with avocado, grilled tomato, or spinach and mushrooms. Locals and visitors alike opt for the legendary “World’s Best French Toast” stuffed with cream cheese, topped with bananas and pecans and flambé in orange liqueur or topped with strawberries or mangos. Bottomless coffee includes decaf.

This neighborhood eatery opens daily at 7:30 am, serving breakfast until 2:00 pm, and lunch with sandwiches and salads on the menu. Seating for 40 inside and 40 on the bougainvillea-shaded patio. Breakfast entrees priced from $5.00 US to $13.00 US for the shrimp omelet. Prices include taxes. Located on Hidalgo between Zapata and Madero.

Street parking, or take advantage of the multi-level parking garage around the corner on Zapata. Master Card and Visa accepted. This location changes its name at 5:00 p.m. and becomes Felix’ serving dinner until 10:00 p.m.
