Cabo San Lucas and Los Cabos - Baja California Sur, Mexico
Mexonline.com features a complete city guide for many locations in Baja California Sur and other areas of Mexico. This city guide and directory focuses on Cabo San Lucas and the Los Cabos area.
Cabo San Lucas, at the tip of the Baja California peninsula, is a boom town which has emerged in the last few years. Some dusty streets still prevail, but don't let that fool you. This is the town most people think of when they hear "Los Cabos" or "Cabo" mentioned as a travel destination in Mexico.
Los Cabos is one of Mexico's largest destinations in terms of its layout. Basically there are three areas included in this resort destination. Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo anchor the Los Cabos area's resort strip. The two towns are separated by the Corridor, a 29 km. (18 mile) stretch of lovely beaches sprinkled with much of the area's new resort developments and golf courses.
Cabo San Lucas boasts some fine restaurants, sophisticated shopping, a large marina, and a very active nightlife. Cabo is tops with fisherman, divers, and those wanting to enjoy the resort life. Nearby Medano Beach is a heavenly stretch of calm, crystal clear water, and white sand beach. Just off shore is "El Arco - the area's signature landmark stone arch, and one of the world's most awesome natural wonders.
Cabo San Lucas and the Los Cabos area is different in many ways from other "Mexican Riviera" counterparts along the Pacific coast. Because of its geographical separation and isolation from mainland Mexico, the tourism industry of Los Cabos has developed closer ties with the U.S. (mostly the west coast) than to the rest of Mexico. A conspicuous "north-of-the-border" atmosphere and attitude give the area an appealing cultural duality. Although, there's no denying the resort's strong "Mexico-by-the-sea" atmosphere.
Los Cabos is also unique in it striking desert landscape, dry climate, and great outdoors unspoiled beauty. Visitors are surrounded by a dramatic backdrop of endless cactus desert, cinnamon-colored mountains, and miles of white sandy beaches and clear, azure waters.
