Bringing the Asian stir-fry concept to Cabo San Lucas, Buddha Bar and Grill is also one of the best people-watching spots in town. Recently opened, it’s already becoming popular with those seeking to play chef and have a bit of fun with their food. The spacious, tidy open-air patio attracts the passer-bys and the bargains keep them coming back.
The concept is fairly simplecheck out the numerous ingredients at the stir-fry bar, pick up a bowl, and fill’er up. For a reasonable price of $5 U.S. per 100 grams, you’ll have a plethora of fresh veggies, seafood, poultry and meat to choose from; to add an Oriental twist to your dish, tote up bamboo shoots, shitake mushrooms, boc choy or cashews. Top it off with one of the six salsas from Peanut to Sweet Chili to Calvin (soy sauce with fruit).
And if you need to consult the pro, Chef Freddy Medel Zavaleta is there to lend you a hand. It’s enough to mention that Chef Freddy spent 9 years training at the Pitahayas Restaurant with his celebrity counterpart Volker Remeike.
Once your creation is ready, it will be cooked on the palapa-covered grill, where you can watch it sizzle to sharpen your appetite. Your stir-fry arrives shortly, served with rice and crispy fried onion rings reminding you the feeling you had when you made your first chocolate chip cookies.
Buddha’s also offers a salad bar featuring the freshest raw vegetables, cheeses and six salad dressings to choose fromgo for the traditional Thousand Islands or the more adventuresome Honey Pepper.
The a la carte menu sports an array of scrumptious appetizers such as the shrimp brochettes with peanut sauce or the yakitori chicken. The entrees include beef, duck and chicken as well as a delicious fare from the sea accompanied by coconut, thyme, tamarind and curry salsas.
To wash it up, Buddha has a happy hour from 12 noon to 7p.m., featuring two for one on all national drinks. So have a margarita, a daiquiri or a cold beer to accompany your meal, and then…have the other one.
With a seating capacity for 80 on the partly covered patio, and additional 12 at the bar, Buddha’s opens for lunch and dinner from 12 a.m. to 12 p.m.
After dinner, hang around at the hip lounge area furnished with comfy white sofas and oversized chairs, tucked away from the downtown hustle and bustle. Located in downtown CSL, on Lazaro Cardenas, across from Burger King, next to Zoo Bar and Dance. Visa and MasterCard are accepted. For reservations, call (624) 143-5501.Anna Urbanik
