Romeo y Julieta
Los Cabos Guide - Restaurant and Dining Review - February 1, 2007 - by Carol Billups

A perennial favorite of locals and visitors, Romeo y Julieta offers fine Italian dining in an intimate setting. Located in the heart of Cabo San Lucas across the street from the marina, for many frequent visitors a meal here is a much-anticipated part of every visit. Known for their pasta and handcrafted pizza Romeo y Julieta also offers a variety of meat and seafood dishes and luscious desserts.

You can start your meal with your own Antipasto creation from the salad bar ($8), or indulge in a delicious Caesar salad prepared fresh at your table for two to share ($13). This traditional salad, first created in Tijuana, Mexico almost a century ago, is a blend of crispy lettuce cheese and croutons in a fresh dressing prepared in an elaborate tableside ritual. Romeo y Julieta’s traditional version doesn’t disappoint. Other starters include shrimp cocktail ($8) and onion soup ($4.50).

Sixteen pasta selections are all freshly prepared and meet the highest standards. If your cardiologist isn’t looking consider the Carbonara, a sinfully rich dish comprised of pasta swimming in bacon, cheese and egg sauce topped with more fresh Parmesan ($10). For those who can’t decide on seafood or pasta, why not try a combination? Linguini with shrimp offers tender shrimp in your choice of a creamy Parmesan sauce or a healthier tomato sauce ($12).

Signature pizzas include the house special, or De La Casa. This thin crust pizza is topped with ham, mushroom, salami, onion and green pepper ($9). Other choices include Margarita (tomato and cheese) ($7), and shrimp ($11). A total of 11 choices are offered in prices ranging from $7-$11 U.S. Many local residents make pizza at Romeo y Julieta a weekly ritual and swear it’s the best on earth.

For diners watching their carbohydrates Romeo y Julieta offers chicken, fish and meat dishes with an Italian accent. Chicken dishes include grilled breast with vegetables, Cacciatore (in tomato, mushroom and wine sauce), and Parmesana (with mozzarella and tomato served with pesto pasta). All are priced at $10 and all are scrumptious. The catch of the day can be prepared on the grill or in a white wine sauce ($12), and shrimp is offered Provencal-style or in a pernod and cream sauce ($23).

A variety of meat entrees are offered including the Brocheta Riviera, shrimp, beef, onion and green pepper ($15). For hearty appetites (or to share) consider the Romeo y Julieta combination (filet, mushrooms, shrimp and pasta alfredo) for $20. A children’s menu features kid-pleasing pizza and pasta with prices ranging from $4-$7. The comprehensive and well thought-out menu assures that there is something here to delight everyone in your party.
